Unsigned band

Ambershift have been around a while, both in this, and previous guises, but one thing that doesn't change is their ability to craft some great tunes.

The band list a couple of their influences as The Stone Roses and The Smiths, which always tend to signpost a band with the best intentions for their music.

Their, as yet untitled, forthcoming debut album is nearing completion, and a few of the tracks have been mixed by producer Chris Sheldon.

You can catch them before they take off at the Head of Steam on 23th July, the Tyne Bar on 8th August and Newcastle Academy on 26th September.

Maximo Park - O2 Academy Newcastle

It's be a while, I've got to say but now I'm back with a vengeance. To my delight the first band I just had to review were TNP's favourites Maximo Park and to make things even better, it was at the Academy. I saw them at the Arena the last time they played and it just does not have the same effect on me. Instead of jumping around like a lunatic, spilling my beer everywhere and generally annoying people, I found myself craning my neck and standing on my tip toes half the night just to get a glimpse of them! Not good for any gig goer or short arse. So yes, the possibly of the floor caving in again at the Academy and everyone being killed was a much better idea than standing around in the arena watching a jumping bean on stage with a bowler hat, in my opinion anyway!
