Verena Paloma Jabs at Tatty Devine

Tatty Devine in London's Brick Lane has been a regular haunt of those in the know for some time.

Tatty Devine is a shop, a gallery, a venue and a place to be seen, and stocks a great range of quirky, stylish jewelry. It also puts on exhibitions by up and coming artists.

The latest art installment at the venue is by the artist Verena Paloma Jabs, and is called Diamond Tears. The exhibition explores the imagery of fairy tales and dreams, and how the line between the two are not as defined as you may think.

The artist herself says ""I am fascinated by the innocent imagery of the pictorial illustrations which often accompany fairy-tales, while the narrative itself is often dark and uncanny. Being of English and Russian ancestry, and growing up in Germany before attending school and university in England, I have a keen interest in how different cultures mirror each other's stories and heritage. Living in an era in which advertising and visual media are overpowering our imagination for commercial purposes, fairy-tales as told to children still harbour a sense of humankind's most ancient fantasies, fears and desires."

Diamond Tears by Verena Paloma Jabs is on from 13th November 2009 to 31st January 2010 at Tatty Devine, 236 Brick Lane, London, E2 7EB.

The Guardian this Saturday

If you are a regular Guardian reader, or even if you're not, along with all the usual wonderfulness of the Guide this Saturday (24th) there will be an opportunity to obtain a printed URL which will allow you to download the new single by Fever Ray.

For those who don't know Fever Ray, it is the solo project of Karen Dreijer, the lovely vocalist from The Knife (she is, ahem, a cut above the rest). For those who don't know The Knife, they delight music fans with their Scandanavian electronica.

Sound good? Get yourself along to the newsagents this Saturday and scan those pages...
